**BLESSED CRISTINA OF SPLETO** — Agostina Camozzi, born in Porlezza at the beginning of the 15th century. Married before she was twenty and widowed shortly after, she gave herself for several years to the vanities and disordered pleasures of the flesh. Sincerely converted to God, she began to journey as a pilgrim to the principal shrines of Italy and to live an austere penitential life in the Regular Third Order of St. Augustine, to which she was admitted in Verona under the name of C. She often changed monasteries for her residence, always with the aim of living unknown, with the sole thought of atoning for her faults and growing in the love of God. Rich in merits, she died at Spoleto on 13 February 1458. Acclaimed as a saint from the time of her death, her cult grew through the centuries, and the Church officially ratified it under the pontificate of Gregory XVI.

The “mysteries” that, with the succession of centuries, receive natural adaptations to taste and circumstances do not go back beyond the 17th century. Perhaps the inspiration came from the sacred tragedy *La trionfatrice Christina* by the canon Gasparo Licco, performed with great success in Palermo on 25 July 1583, and which enjoyed popularity and wide diffusion. — See pl.
