The style of F. is essentially that of a storyteller who delights in the chromatic life of precious surfaces, in the decorative richness of fabrics and costumes. He appears archaic and yet expresses himself in a personal idiom, often achieving a fresh and straightforward manner.
Among his principal works are: the triptych of Avigliana (*Nativity*, etc., 1511); the *Madonna of Mercy* (1519; Ciriè, S. Giovanni); the *Adoration of the Child with St Veremondo* (1521; Ivrea, Duomo); the *Sposalizio della Vergine* (Turin, Museo Civico); the *Madonna and Child with St Joseph and Angels* (Baltimore, Walters Art Gallery); the stalls with 20 painted panels (Biella, former convent of S. Gerolamo, 1523); the polyptych of S. Antonio of Ranverso at Buttigliera Alta (1531).
