GAND, Giuseppe Pina. - Born 16 July 1829 at Boulay (Lorraine), died 2 February 1907. She received the Dominican habit at Chalon-sur-Saône on 19 March 1839, taking the name Sister St Dominic of the Cross.

She combined a spirit of piety and mortification with great zeal for apostolic works, instructed the novices in the religious life, and in 1854 was chosen to lead three pious sisters at Bonny who had dedicated themselves to the service of God and the poor while observing the rule of the Dominican Third Order. Thus she became the foundress of the Congregation of the Dominican Sisters of St Catherine of Siena for the education of youth and the care of the sick, whose motherhouse is at Erzépagny (Eure). Her cause of beatification was introduced by decree of 17 April 1940.
