He wrote religious lyrics, among the earliest in French literature, and a poem consisting of about 80 legends, entitled *Miracles de la Ste Vierge*, imbued with fresh ingenuousness. In this work the Virgin is presented especially as the advocate of sinners. G. also composed and translated numerous legends and lives of the saints, including the *Vie de Ste Léonarde*, a social and ecclesiastical satire.
