GIORGIO, Domenico. - Prelate, historian, and liturgist, born at Costa di Rovigo on 4 June 1690, died at Rovigo on 21 July 1747. Ordained priest in 1773, librarian of the library of Cardinal G. R. Imperiali, abbot of S. Maria di Saccolongo (1727), he was on intimate terms with Innocent XIII, Benedict XIII, Clement XI, and Benedict XIV, who appointed him his domestic prelate. He devoted himself to learned research in history and liturgy.
Of his numerous works, the following may be mentioned: *De antiquis Italiae metropolitana* (Rome 1722); *Trattato sopra gli abiti sacri del Sommo Pontefice di Roma* (ibid. 1724); *De liturgia romani Pontificis in solenni celebratione missarum* (3 vols. fol., ibid. 1731, 43, 44); *De Monogrammate Christi* (ibid. 1738, refuting Basnage); the edition of the *Martyrologium Adonis* (ibid. 1745); and the annotations to the edition of Baronio’s *Annales*, edited by Mansi at Lucca (1738–59). Several of his manuscripts are preserved in the Biblioteca Casanatense.
