Goffredo of Poitiers (Gaufridus Pictaviensis). — Scholastic theologian, d. ca. 1225. A pupil of Stephen Langton, he taught in the early years of the 13th century at the University of Paris. In 1221 he was at the court of Gregory IX together with William of Auxerre, entrusted with the reform of studies.
He wrote a lengthy Summa theologica, probably between 1212 and 1215, which shows strong dependence on Stephen Langton and Robert de Courçon (unpublished). It deals especially with the problems of the virtues and of sin.
