GOFFREDO di SAN VITTORE. – Philosopher, born in the first decades of the 12th century, died in 1194. Detailed biographical information is lacking.
He wrote: Pons philosophiae, which is a classification of the sciences with an indication of the ancient philosophical sources (Plato, Aristotle, Boethius, Macrobius, etc.). The same work contains valuable historical information on the various solutions to the problem of universals; De microcosmo (Biblioteca Nazionale, Paris, cod. lat. 14.515), a philosophical-ascetic work in which the Platonism of Chartres and the dialectic of Abelard merge with the mysticism of the school of S. Vittore.
