GOZECHINO. – Scholastic of Liège, died ca. 1059. He wrote a long Epistola ad Valcherum (PL 143, 885–909), to clear himself, together with his former disciple, of having abandoned teaching upon his withdrawal to Mainz, citing the malice of the times and the scandal of the heresy of Berengario di Tours, (v.), whom he stigmatizes as apostolus Satanae. In it he proves himself a strict traditionalist, opposed to the “novitates quaestionum,” professing a simple and orthodox Eucharistic faith.
