HUS (Hebr. 'Òs). — Region (“land of H.”), homeland of Job (Job 1:1). Since Gen 36:28 places H. among the descendants of Seir, and Lam 4:21 links H. with Edom, the “land of H.” is to be situated in the territory of Edom, on the border between that region and Arabia.
A. Musil traces its location at el-Is, between et-Tafileh and Wadi el-Hesâ. Others prefer to place it south of Ma'an, exposed to incursions from the Sabaeans of the Hijâz and from the Chaldeans coming from the east. Ancient Hebrew tradition sought it in the Havrán.
