Its last bishop was Antonio, appointed on 4 Feb. 1432; in 1434 Pope Eugenius IV united M. to the diocese of Volturnia, a suffragan of Benevento; yet by 1613 M. retained only a single chapel; the settlement, including the ancient cathedral of S. Peter, was deserted.
