PIE OPERAIE DELL'IMMACOLATA CONCEZIONE. — Founded in 1744 by H.E. Fr. A. Marcucci, Bishop of Montaldo Marche.

The purpose is the instruction and civil, religious formation of children in infant schools, and of young girls in colleges, schools, and orphanages. On 6 Dec. 1777 the Institute received from Pius VI the brief of praise «as a monastery of oblates» under the title and habit of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. With the new jurisprudence of the Congregations with simple vows, the monastery was transformed into a modern Congregation, modifying its ancient constitutions in 1932. At present the Institute has 130 sisters distributed in 20 houses.
