She took the veil at 20 and until 1782 led a wretched life, going so far as to give, by a contract written in her own blood, her soul and body to the devil. She was converted at 33; and after ten years of severe penances received the stigmata of the Passion together with the crown of thorns which she bore until her death. She had continual visions, the gifts of prophecy, bilocation, and the discernment of hearts. In mystical prayer she attained spiritual espousals and received from Jesus a gold ring which she habitually wore. These mystical manifestations were subjected to rigorous critical examination by the competent authorities, as may be seen from the correspondence preserved in full in the archives of her monastery.
