ADORATRICI del S. CUORE DI GESÙ DI MONTMARTRE. — They were founded by Adele Garnier near the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Montmartre in Paris, on the site where, before the French Revolution, an abbey of Benedictine nuns had stood. The institute was canonically erected on 4 March 1898 by Cardinal Richard. The nuns follow the Rule of St Benedict, and their purpose is devotion to the Sacred Heart. Expelled in 1901, they took refuge in England. They were approved by the Holy See in 1930 and today number approximately 100, in 6 houses. Silverio Mattei
ADORATRICI del S.mo SACRAMENTO. — A religious institute founded in Córdoba, Argentina, in 1885 by several pious ladies under the direction of the bishop Giovanni C. Tissera, to make reparation for the offenses committed against Jesus in the Eucharistic Sacrament. The nuns devote themselves to the instruction and education of young people in colleges and schools.
They were approved by the Holy See in 1896 and now number more than 200, in 10 houses. Silverio Mattei
ADORATRICI del S.mo SACRAMENTO. — The Congregation was founded at Rivolta d’Adda by the priest Francesco Spinelli following a division caused by financial difficulties in the Institute of the Sacramentine, which had arisen in Bergamo in 1881 through the work of Geltrude Comensoli, encouraged by Spinelli himself. The nuns’ purposes are the adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament, the education and instruction of young women, and the care of the sick. The Institute has the approval of the Holy See and today numbers more than 1,000 nuns in 120 houses.
ADORATRICI SCHIAVE del S.mo SACRAMENTO E DELLA CARITÀ. — They were founded in Madrid by St Maria Michela del S.SACRAMENTI (v.) in 1845 for the re-education of fallen young women and the preservation of those in danger of falling. They also maintain free schools of work. Approved by the Holy See in 1866, they now number more than 1,500 in 60 houses in Spain, Italy, South America, and Morocco. In their chapels the Most Blessed Sacrament is exposed continuously.
