AMANN, Emilie. - French priest, historian, and theologian, b. 11 June 1880, d. 10 January 1948. He studied in Nancy and Paris. In 1919 he was appointed to the chair of ancient Church history at the Faculty of Catholic Theology in Strasbourg.
In 1910 he launched the collection *Apocryphes du Nouveau Testament* with *Le Protévangile de Jacques et ses remaniements latins* (Paris 1910), and later published in it, in collaboration with L. Vouaux, *Les actes de Paul et ses lettres apocryphes* (Paris 1913) and *Les actes de Pierre* (Paris 1920). From 1913 he contributed to the *DThC*, later directing it from 1922 and overseeing about 20 volumes, in which he published over 100 articles. He also wrote *Le Dogme théologique dans les Pères de l'Eglise* (Paris 1920) and *L'Eglise des premiers siècles* (Paris 1928). He collaborated on the *Histoire de l'Eglise* by A. Fliche and V. MARTINO G, contributing volume VI, *L'époque carolingienne* (Paris 1934), and part of volume VII, *L'Eglise au pouvoir des laïques* (Paris 1940); and on the *Revue des sciences religieuses*, which in its 1948 issue (pp. 5–8) carried his obituary and the conclusion of his study *Autour de l'histoire du Gallicanisme* (pp. 9–28).
