AMANDO da ZIERIKSEE. - Franciscan exegete, Dutch, born around 1450 on the island of Walcheren, died on 8 June 1534 in Louvain.
A Doctor of Theology, he was renowned as a specialist in Greek and Hebrew. Provincial of Cologne (1503), he resigned after three years to cede the office to the scheming Wessel Gasbrink and lived in retirement in the student house of his Order in Louvain, where he taught theology and Sacred Scripture. He left in manuscript commentaries on Genesis, Job, Ecclesiastes, Psalm 118, on the Seventy Weeks of Daniel, and a De XV stationibus (of Israel in the desert). Franciscus Titelmans published his Chronica compendiosissima ab exordio mundi usque ad a. 1534 (Antwerp 1534, 1537), rich in rare documents.
