AMANDO DA ZIERIKSEE. - Franciscan exegete, Dutch, b. about 1450 on the island of Walcheren, d. 8 June 1534 at Lovanio.
Doctor of theology, he gained renown as a Greek and Hebrew scholar. Provincial of Colonia (1503), he resigned after three years in order to leave the office to the intriguer Wessel Gasbrink, and lived in retirement at the student house of his Order at Lovanio, teaching theology and Holy Scripture there. He left in manuscript commentaries on Gen., Job, Eccl., Ps. 118, the 70 Weeks of Daniel, and a De XV stationibus (of Israel in the desert). Francesco Titelmans published his Chro-
nica compendiosissima ab exordio mundi usque ad a. 1534 (Anversa 1534, 1537), rich in rare documents.
