GALLIGARI, Ernesto (miкrós). – Journalist, born 2 March 1858 in Bonassola (Spezia), died 19 August 1929 in Carrodano (Spezia). Having graduated in law, in 1882 he became a contributor to *Il Cittadino* of Genoa, where he had been collaborating since 1878, adopting the pseudonym *Mikrós*, which he thereafter always used to sign his writings.
In 1889 he became editor-in-chief of *Il Cittadino* and made it a platform for the defence of Christian principles, for political-religious reconciliation, and for securing positions of responsibility within the Genoese public administration. He succeeded in ousting anticlericals from the civic administration, and for about thirty years the city of Genoa was governed by a moderate Catholic administration, of which Galligari served as councillor and assessor for several years. In 1917 Benedict XV called him to take charge of *L’Unità Cattolica* in Florence, which, after the death of Don Cavallanti, had been reduced to a poor sheet, heir to a great tradition but with limited resources. He transformed it into a position of high responsibility from which to speak officially to all Italians, and his articles gained wide circulation. For a time he also directed *L’Iralia* of Milan, though he confined himself to contributing articles.
