CALLINICUS. – Meletian bishop of Pelusium in Egypt (4th century), adversary of St. Athanasius and suffragan of John Arkaff; he was one of the four Meletian bishops commissioned by Arkaff to protest before the court at Antioch against the tribute imposed by Athanasius on the Egyptians; at the Council of Tyre (335) he also accused him of having broken Ischira’s chalice and deposed him himself, after mistreating him. He was also present at the Council of Sardica.
