Instead, he painted numerous panels with a rather rough style and labored mannerisms, of drawing and highlights of Eastern origin, often signing them with the name of Margarito. Some painted frontals depicting the image of the *Virgin* are remembered, such as the one in the National Gallery in London (no. 564), another in the church of S. Margherita in Arezzo, and another still in the church of Montelungo.

More famous, however, are his images of *St. Francis*, depicted frontally as an Eastern ascetic. Notable among these are the one in the Arezzo Picture Gallery (reproduced in color under the entry for Francesco), another in the Vatican Picture Gallery, one in S. Francesco in Castiglion Fiorentino, another in the Civic Museum of Montepulciano, and one in Rome in S. Francesco a Ripa.
