VINCENZO SCAMOZZI (1548–1616). — Born in Vicenza into a family of architects, he was the nephew and pupil of GIOVANNI ANTONIO SCAMOZZI. After completing his studies, he traveled extensively in Italy and abroad, acquiring a vast knowledge of architecture. He settled in Venice, where he became one of the leading figures in the architectural scene of the late Renaissance. His works include the completion of the Palazzo Ducale in Venice and the design of numerous villas and palaces in the Veneto region. He is particularly renowned for his theoretical treatise *L’Idea dell’Architettura Universale* (1615), which systematized the principles of Renaissance architecture.
