Dominus ac Redemptor

Bolla di soppressione della Compagnia di Gesù

Bolla di papa Clemente XIV ·

Clemente PP. XIV.
Ad perpetuam rei memoriam.

Testo inglese

Clement XIV, Pope.
For perpetual remembrance of the matter.

1 § 1. Our Lord and Redeemer Jesus Christ, prince of peace, whom the prophet foretold, when He came into the world first made known through angels to the shepherds, and then through Himself before He ascended into heaven, left to His disciples once and again, after He had reconciled all things to God the Father, making peace through the blood of His cross, whether things on earth or things in heaven. He also entrusted to the apostles the ministry of reconciliation and placed in them the word of reconciliation, so that, acting as ambassadors for Christ, who is not a God of dissension but of peace and charity, they might announce peace to the whole world and direct their efforts and labors chiefly to this end, that all born in Christ might be solicitous to preserve the unity of the spirit in the bond of peace, one body and one spirit, as they were called in one hope of their calling, to which it does not at all pertain—

2 Year V.

3 Preamble.

4 § 2. This very word of reconciliation and ministry, entrusted to Us by divine providence in a certain more precious manner, We recalled to mind when, raised by merits altogether unequal to this seat of Peter, We kept it before Our eyes day and night, and bearing it inscribed most deeply in Our heart, We strove according to Our strength to satisfy it, constantly imploring divine aid to this end, that God might deign to infuse into Us and into the whole flock of the Lord thoughts and counsels of peace, and reserve for Us the safest and most firm access to attaining it. Indeed, knowing well that We have been constituted by divine counsel over nations and over kingdoms to uproot and destroy and scatter and disperse, and to build and plant in cultivating the vineyard of Sabaoth and in preserving the edifice of Christian religion, of which Christ is the cornerstone, We have always been of such mind and constant will that, just as for the quiet and tranquility of the Christian commonwealth We deemed nothing should be omitted by Us that would be in any way suited to planting and building, so by the same bond of mutual charity demanding it, We were equally prompt and prepared to uproot and destroy whatever, though most pleasant to Us and most agreeable, and what We could not be without without the greatest distress and sorrow of mind, it might be necessary to remove.
