AMBROSE OF MILAN. - Capuchin theologian, b. in Milan in 1535, d. May 14, 1615. Until the age of fifteen he was educated by the Augustinians, then he entered the Capuchins. He was a renowned lecturer in theology in the general studies of the Marches, Bologna and Tuscany, and twice provincial of Lombardy. A man of great piety and austerity, he was held in high esteem by Cardinal Federico Borromeo. From him there remains to us in manuscript: Il Mistero dell'Ecce Homo, and in print: I Commentari eruditi ed utili sopra l'orazione domenicale; he composed other minor works, today unfindable.
