IDEA. - Name of two periodicals founded and directed by Monsignor Pietro Barbieri.
The first is a "monthly of political and social culture," which first appeared in January 1945. In that same issue the director set out the aims of the new review as follows: "clarification of spiritual, social and economic problems; spiritual union of all Italians and an intelligent cultural collaboration with other peoples, keeping above the fray of parties, aiming more at perennial ideas than at contingent reality." Among the contributors appear the names of Luigi Einaudi, Luigi Sturzo, Guido de Ruggiero, Guido Gonella, as well as very many other Italian and foreign scholars.
The history of I. is bound up with the religious, moral and political life of our time and constitutes a precious source of information on Italian life in this troubled postwar period.
The second is a "weekly of culture" that appeared in May 1949. It concerns a properly cultural field, and is open to all who are animated by a sincere love of culture. It is a training ground for free discussion, inspired by objectivity and scrupulousness, a journal of ideas whose aim is moral and intellectual reconstruction, to which the most illustrious men of literature, art, science and the schools contribute.
