ZACCHIOLO. — The scene of the announcement of Jesus’ visit to Z. has been identified by G. Wilpert in a fragment of a sarcophagus from Arles (Wilpert, Sarcofagi, p. 310 and pl. 148, 2), which Peiresc once saw intact; in another fragment likewise identified by Wilpert in Rome in the cemetery of Pretestato (ibid., pl. 235, 3); in the Lateran sarcophagus 125, which is badly damaged (ibid., pl. 230, 6); and in other fragments in France (at Die: ibid., pl. 230, 6).
