ZACCONI, LUDOVICO. - Augustinian, musician, b. at Pesaro on 11 June 1555, d. at Firenzuola di Pesaro on 22 March 1627.

Having entered the Order in 1583, he directed the choir of the Augustinian church in Venice for several years; then he was called to Graz to the archducal chapel; from there he moved to the Court of Munich (1591-95), later returning to Italy, where he spent the rest of his life.

His most notable works as a theorist are: Prattica di musica in 2 parts (Venice 1592 and 1622), which contains dissertations on mensural theory and on counterpoint, with interesting detailed and descriptive notices of the instruments of the time, and 4 books of musical Canons, with commentaries and solutions (new ed., Pesaro 1905). His output is well represented by a collection of Ricercari for organ.
