ZACCONI, LUDOVICO. — Augustinian, musician, b. in Pesaro on 11 June 1555, d. in Firenzuola di Pesaro on 22 March 1627.
Having entered the Order in 1583, he directed for several years the choir of the Augustinian church in Venice; he was then called to Graz, to the Archducal Chapel; from there he went to the Court of Monaco (1591–95), subsequently returning to Italy, where he spent the remainder of his life.
His most notable works as a theorist are: Prattica di musico in 2 parts (Venice 1592 and 1622), which contains dissertations on mensural theory and counterpoint, with interesting detailed and descriptive information about the instruments of the period, and 4 books of Canoni musicali, with commentaries and solutions (new ed., Pesaro 1905). His production is well represented by a collection of Ricercari for organ.
