ZACCONI, Ludovico. — Augustinian, musician, b. in Pesaro on 11 June 1555, d. in Firenzuola di Pesaro on 22 March 1627.
Having entered the Order in 1583, he directed the choir of the Augustinian church in Venice for several years; then he was called to Graz in the Archducal Chapel; from there he moved to the Court of Munich (1591–95), later returning to Italy, where he spent the rest of his life.
His most notable theoretical works are: *Prattica di musico* in 2 parts (Venice 1592 and 1622), which contains dissertations on mensural theory and counterpoint, with interesting detailed and descriptive notices of the instruments of the time, and 4 books of musical canons, with comments and solutions (new ed., Pesaro 1905). His output is well represented by a collection of *Ricercari* for organ.
