St Bernard of Clairvaux († 1153) · Epistolae · c. 1120-1153

Letter CDV. To the Abbot G.

Bernard assures him that one of his Religious has sufficiently good health to live according to the custom of the community.

To the Abbot G., Brother Bernard, health and assurance of his friendship.

Be assured that Brother G. since his return from La Chreste where he took various remedies, has performed all the observances of his community, as a man in perfect health, nor has he been indulged in food more than others: also he has attended the night offices as they have done. If he shall do otherwise when with you, do not yield to it. You may be sure that anything wrong with him is not weakness of body, but lukewarmness of soul. Farewell.
