REAR FAÇADE of an altar dedicated by one T. C. Faventinus to the myth of Mars. In the first upper panel: Mars approaches Rhea Silvia asleep by the Tiber; in the second, the vestal with the two twins; in the third, the exposure of the two newborns in the river while Mars armed contemplates, protecting god, the scene, from a hill (the Palatine?) a shepherd (Faustulus?) is watching; in the fourth the she-wolf, between two amazed shepherds, suckles the twins (2nd-3rd cent. AD) - Rome, Vatican Museum.
