AMOVIBILITY. – Ecclesiastical offices are said to be irremovable (or also perpetual or titular) or removable (also called manual or temporary), according as their holder has the right to stability and therefore cannot be removed except for causes more or less strictly established by law, or may be removed for any just cause or even at the superior’s discretion (ad mutum).
As a rule, all secular benefices (v. BENEFICIO) are irremovable (can. 1438), with the exception of certain parish benefices. Non-beneficed offices are for the most part removable (v. AMOZIONE)
