AMOVIBILITY. — Ecclesiastical offices are said to be inamovible (or also percute or titled) or amovible (also called manual or temporary), according to whether the holder of such offices has a right to stability and therefore cannot be removed except for causes more or less strictly defined by law, or may be removed for any just cause or even at the superior’s discretion (ad nutum).
As a rule, all secular benefices (v. BENEFICIO) are inamovible (can. 1438), with the exception of certain parochial benefices. Most non-beneficial offices are amovible (v. AMOZIONE).
