AUBRY, PIERRE. – Musicologist, born in Paris on 14 February 1874, died in Dieppe on 31 August 1910. Learned in the Oriental languages, he was an acute scholar of medieval music; he taught courses in the history of music at the Ecole des hautes études sociales in Paris.
Among his numerous works, all significant though in part open to question, mention should be made of the valuable studies collected under the title Mélanges de musicologie critique (Paris 1900–1903) and Essais de musicologie comparée (there 1905), and the admirable editions of the Roman de Fauvel (there 1900–1903) and the Cents motets du XIIIe siècle (there 1908); among his more widely disseminated works is the study on Troubadours et Trouvères (there 1909).
