AUBRY, NOËL-VÉRAN. — Ascetical writer, b. at Orgon (Avignon) on 23 March 1719, d. at Avignon on 8 January 1756. He entered the Congregation of the Mission in 1739 and was ordained a priest in 1742; from 1747 until shortly before his death he was first chaplain and then parish priest at S. Marta in Tarascon.
He published a Manuale christianorum in quattuor libros divisum: opus tum christianis omnibus tum maxime religiosis atque ecclesiasticis viris perutile, which his contemporaries called “worthy of the Imitation of Christ” and which is still widely circulated among the clergy (Malines 1906). Published anonymously in Paris in 1754, it went through many editions and was translated, under various titles, into French (1774) and Spanish (1808).
