AMBROSIANI, VINCENZO. - Ascetical writer, b. at Monacilioni (Campobasso) on 9 February 1839, d. there in 1895. He entered the Congregation of the Mission in Naples in 1855. As soon as he was ordained priest (1862), he was sent to France, where he taught in the seminaries of Albi (1862–68), La Rochelle (1869), and Carcassonne (1870). In 1871 he was in Italy at the seminary of Aquino; he subsequently became rector of that of Larino.
He left noteworthy writings, including: I seminari clericali e il prossimo Concilio Vaticano (Naples 1869); Explicazione d'un Etendard eucharistique composed by Mons. Tommaso Ghilardi, bishop of Mondovì, in the journal Règne de Jésus-Christ (Paray-le-Monial, Jan.–Apr. 1869), translated into Italian under the title Stendardo degli adoratori perpetui del S.mo Sacramento, Mondovì 1886; a short treatise on the Eucharist, Les qualités de l'hostie et leur symbolisme, in the Semaine catholique of Carcassonne (1866), later taken up again and developed into five conferences under the title: La Communion par excellence, ou les Mystères de l'union de Dieu et de l'homme par la sainte Eucharistie (Tours 1887).
