«AURORA IAM SPARGIT POLUM». — Hymn for Lauds on Saturday, found in 9th-century manuscripts. Just as the light of the dawning day dispels the darkness of night, so divine grace drives sin from the soul. This thought governs the poet’s inspiration in a hymn meant to be sung precisely at the break of the new day.
