Carroccio (The)

CARROCCIO (IL). – Monthly journal of “formation and action” for young people; it was founded in Milan in October 1922 by the then-emerging Company of St. Paul, which Cardinal Ferrari, the diocesan archbishop, wished to bless on his deathbed. It brought together the finest literary names, such as Papini, Giulotti, Angelini, and Felici, and achieved wide circulation through the movement’s spirit of avant-garde initiative and boldness, of which it was an expression. It subsequently underwent transformations that were not always successful, until it was suspended in 1943. At present (1949), it is the intention of the Company of St. Paul to resume its publication.
