FEHRENBACH, KONSTANTIN. – German politician, born on 11 January 1852 at Wellendinger (Baden), died on 26 March 1926 at Fribourg in Br. A Centre deputy in the Baden Diet, he became president of that body. Elected to the Reichstag in 1903, he soon became one of the party’s most prominent figures. President of the Reichstag in 1918, he held the same office in the Weimar National Assembly and played an important role in the preparatory work for the new German republican constitution. Chancellor of the Reich in June 1920, he took part in the conferences of Spa (July 1920) and London (May 1921). From the end of 1923 he headed the Centre parliamentary group in the Reichstag.
