Fehrenbach, Konstantin

FEHRENBACH, KONSTANTIN. - German politician, b. 11 January 1852 at Wellendinger (Baden), d. 26 March 1926 at Freiburg im Breisgau. A deputy of the Center Party in the Baden Diet, he was president of that Diet. Elected to the Reichstag in 1903, he soon became one of the most eminent figures of the party. President of the Reichstag in 1918, he held the same office in the Weimar National Assembly, and played an important part in the preparatory work on the new German republican constitution. Chancellor of the Reich in June 1920, he took part in the conferences of Spa (July 1920) and London (May 1921). From the end of 1923 he was head of the Center Party's parliamentary group in the Reichstag.
