FLORENTIUS. - Anomoean bishop of Constantinople who lived in the 4th century. The scanty information about F. comes from Philostorgius. The date of his birth and his origin are unknown. He appears in opposition to the official bishop Eudoxius, at the time of Julian the Apostate, when the Anomoeans established a hierarchy of their own in various cities. Under the emperor Valens, on the occasion of the rebellion of Procopius, which went so far as to occupy the capital, F. saved the leaders of the sect, Eunomius and Aetius. After that he is no longer mentioned. It is uncertain whether he should be identified with the F. who at first sided with Procopius, then betrayed him and was killed together with him by the soldiers of Valens.
