FLORENTIUS. – Amorian bishop of Constantinople who lived in the 4th century. The scant information about F. comes from Philostorgius. His date of birth and origin are unknown. He appears in contrast to the official bishop Eudoxius at the time of Julian the Apostate, when the Amorians established their own hierarchy in various cities. Under Emperor Valens, during the rebellion of Procopius, who even managed to occupy the capital, F. saved the leaders of the Eunomian and Aetian sects. After this, nothing more is heard of him. It is uncertain whether he should be identified with the F. who first participated in Procopius’ rebellion, then betrayed him and was killed together with him by Valens’ soldiers.
