NOMOCANONI. — This is the name given, beginning in the 11th century, to collections containing imperial laws and conciliar canons.
Among the most famous are the nomocanon quinquaginta titulorum, resulting from the union of two collections (the Collectio quinquaginta titulorum and the LXXXVII Capitulo) by Giovanni Scolastico, patriarch of Constantinople; and the nomocanon quattuordecim titulorum, which brings together conciliar decrees, letters of the Fathers of the Church, imperial constitutions drawn from the Collectio tripertita, and novellas of the emperor Heraclius.
