O Gloriosa Virginum

O GLORIOSA VIRGINUM. - Hymn of Lauds in the Common Office of the feasts of Our Lady, composed by Venantius Fortunatus.

Full of admiration for the Virgin, the poet extols her who gave human flesh to her creator and who now rejoices with him in the glory of heaven. For just as through Eve death came into the world, so through Mary life has been obtained, which all the faithful extol. To the pilgrims of the world, weeping in this valley of tears, may the Virgin now open the gates of heaven.
