RENO, DIOCESE of. — City and diocese in the State of Nevada (U. S. A.).

The diocese of R. covers a territory of 110,829 sq. miles, and the total population is 158,370 inhabitants (1950 census); there are only 23,719 Catholics (1951); 49 priests exercise the sacred ministry in 26 parishes, 14 chapels, and 20 stations. There are 6 women’s congregations, a seminary, and 2 hospitals.

The diocese of R. was erected by the apostolic constitution Pastoris aeterni vices of Pius XI, dated 27 March 1931, for the whole of Nevada, being separated from the dioceses of Salt Lake and Sacramento.
