The Diocese of Reno covers a territory of 110,829 square miles; the total population is 158,370 inhabitants (1950 census); Catholics number only 23,719 (1951); 49 secular clergy exercise the sacred ministry in 26 parishes, 14 chapels, and 20 stations. There are 6 female congregations, one seminary, and 2 hospitals.
The Diocese of Reno was erected by the apostolic constitution *Pastoris aeterni vices* of Pius XI on 27 March 1931 for the entire State of Nevada, having been separated from the Dioceses of Salt Lake and Sacramento.
