St Bernard of Clairvaux († 1153) · Epistolae · c. 1120-1153

Letter CDXXXIV. To the same.

He recommends to him the bearer of the letter.

Few are found faithful, now that charity is growing cold: and since every thing that is dear and costly is precious, the love and fidelity of the Lord N., who has conducted most faithfully your business among us, ought to be bound to you by the strongest bonds of favour and kindness. Let it be a reason in his favour also, that I love him as a man learned, faithful, and spiritually minded.
