ANONYMOUS VALESIAN. – This name is commonly used to denote an important chronicle, first published in 1636 by H. Valois (Valesio) as an appendix to his edition of Ammianus Marcellinus, under the title De Constantio Chlora, Constantino Magno et aliis imperatoribus excerpta auctoris ignoti. The fragment comprises two parts: one covering the years 293 to 337, composed before the time of Emperor Honorius by a non-Christian author, but which has been interpolated; the other from 474 to 526, written before the end of Gothic rule, in already barbaric form, by an author hostile to the Arians. This latter part is also called the Theodorician Chronicle.
