CARAFA, ROSA dei duchi di TRAETTO, venerable. – Handmaid of the Sacred Heart, born in Naples on 6 April 1832, died there on 2 May 1890. She lived in seclusion within her family until, after her father’s death, in 1875 Archbishop Riario Sforza urged her toward external activity, considering her among the Oblates; two years later, at the invitation of the ven. Volpicelli, she entered the latter’s institute, to which she attracted vocations through her example and the direction of charitable works. She suffered almost continuous and painful illnesses and was granted extraordinary gifts of prayer. She was a Franciscan tertiary. On 28 August 1907, the cause of her beatification was introduced.
