CARAFA, Rosa dei duchi di Traetto, Venerable. – Servant of the Sacred Heart, born in Naples on 6 April 1832, died there on 2 May 1890. She lived in retirement within her family until her father’s death in 1875, when Archbishop Riario Sforza urged her to external apostolic work, considering her among the Oblates. Two years later, at the invitation of the Venerable Volpicelli, she entered the latter’s institute, where she fostered vocations both by her example and by directing its works. She endured almost continuous and painful illnesses along with extraordinary gifts of prayer. She was a Franciscan tertiary. On 28 August 1907 the cause for her beatification was introduced.
