1871
A most prolific composer, he left no fewer than 65 stage works, of which only Lucia di Lammermoor, La Favorita, and Don Pasquale remain in the repertoire. He also composed oratorios, hymns, cantatas, various instrumental music, and even misereres and requiem masses, one of which, recently performed, has revealed extensive qualities of vigorous and solid conception, especially in the choral parts.
