FERDINANDO of JESUS. – Discalced Carmelite theologian, secular name Ferd. Jiménez de Benalcázar, born in 1571 in Baeza (Andalusia), died there on 15 May 1644. He was clothed in the Carmelite habit by St. John of the Cross himself in Granada (1588), and was a holy and learned man, a celebrated preacher (known as the Chrysostom of his time), who converted many sinners and taught philosophy and theology with great acclaim.
Only the following of his numerous works were published: *Commentaria in III partem diu Thomas* (Baeza 1613); *Proemium totius S. Scripturae* (ibid. 1625).
