FERDINANDO of Jesus. — Discalced Carmelite theologian, in the world Ferd. Jimenez de Benalcázar, born in 1571 in Baeza (Andalusia), died there on 15 May 1644. Clothed in the Carmelite habit by St. Giovanni della Croce himself at Granada (1588), he was a holy and learned man, a celebrated preacher (called the Chrysostom of his time); he converted many sinners and taught philosophy and theology with acclaim.
Of his numerous works, only the following were published: Commentaria in III partem divi Thomae (Baeza 1613); Procemium totius S. Scripturae (there 1625).
