FIGLIE DI MARIA IMMACOLATA (Zakroczyum). – On 21 Nov. 1891, the Capuchin Fr. Onorato Kuzminski, with the approval of the diocesan Ordinary, laid the foundations of this Congregation in Zakroczyum (Russia), with the aim of remedying deficiencies in morality and faith among Catholics in the cities, and gave them the Rule of the Third Order of St Francis together with appropriate constitutions. Shortly afterward, however, the religious were expelled and took refuge in Warsaw, where they continued their work. Owing to various circumstances, it was only on 9 Feb. 1934 that the decree of praise and temporary approval of the constitutions were obtained.
The special purpose of the Institute is to promote good morals and faith among city dwellers through schools of every kind for girls, workshops, boarding schools, and also homes for the elderly. The Institute is composed of choir sisters and lay sisters. In 1942 the sisters numbered 214, with 8 houses.
