JEUNESSE MARINAIRE CHRÉTIENNE (J.M.C.) - It brings together, in French-speaking countries, young people of the seafaring profession. This is for two principal reasons: the instability of young sailors, obliged to move from place to place, travelling for many months of the year; and the legitimate claims which they have, or may have, to present to society. It was founded in 1929.
The J. M. C. seeks to establish, at every maritime base, meeting places for these young people, with groups of friends and a chaplain to welcome them; to form all young seafarers into a strong bloc, united in a national Movement, capable of making its voice heard by the State. Moreover, the J. M. C. wishes to place on a single front, also in order to avoid the divergences existing among them, seafarers both in commerce and fishing and those in the service of the State, while reserving the right to promote specialized congresses for the three categories.
The groups or circles existing in the various cities are under the direction of a general secretary.
The Movement publishes the monthly Jeunesse marinaire.
