JEUNESSE MARINAIRE CHRÉTIENNE (J.M.C.)
The J.M.C. brings together, in French-speaking countries, the young seafaring element. It does so for two main reasons: the instability of young sailors who are compelled to move from place to place, traveling for many months of the year; and the just claims they have or may have to present to society. It was founded in 1929.
The J.M.C. aims to establish, in every seafarers' base, gatherings for these young people with groups of friends and a chaplain to welcome them; to form a strong bloc of all young seafarers, united in a national Movement capable of making their voice heard by the State. Furthermore, it is the desire of the J.M.C. to place them on a single front, also to avoid existing divergences among them, the seafarers—whether in commerce and fishing or those in service to the State—while reserving the right to promote specialized congresses for the three categories.
The groups or circles existing in various cities report to a general secretary.
The Movement publishes the monthly *Jeunesse marinière*.
