ITALIAN YOUTH. - Journal published under the care of the Gioventù Italiana di Azione Cattolica from May 1912 — when it took over the legacy of La Parola, a monthly journal founded on the initiative of the Dante Alighieri student circle of Rome — to May 1943. In addition to articles of guidance, it also contains the official proceedings of the organization of the Gioventù Cattolica and the chronicle of its activity.
From 1914 it took the name Rivista della società della Gioventù Cattolica Italiana. In the period 1915-18 it published alongside itself a weekly sheet entitled Mentre si combatte and from 3 Dec. 1918 to 25 May 1919 Dopo la vittoria. From Jan. 1923, renewed in its typographical appearance, it took the name Pubblicazione ufficiale mensile illustrata della società della Gioventù Cattolica Italiana. Suspended from June 1931 through all of 1932, it then split into Bollettino dirigenti and Rivista mensile di cultura. Suspended again at the end of 1939 by the Ministry of Popular Culture, it came back to life in May 1940, absorbing into a single publication also Tecnica, the monthly of the diocesan directors of the Gioventù Cattolica, and also dealing with organizational themes, educational problems, etc. During 1940 G. I. published a series of notebooks, among which particular mention should be made of L'Ottocento, Itinerari and Roma. With 1941 it returned to being solely a journal of culture, while discussions of a technical character were handled by Apostolato. With no. 8 of Dec. 1942 it became Organo del 75° della Società della Gioventù Cattolica Italiana with the program of publishing historical documents, evocations of the past and archival and bibliographical notes for the reconstruction of the history of the Gioventù Cattolica Italiana.
Ernesto Talentino
