LUIGI II, king of HUNGARY and BOHEMIA. - B. 2 July 1506, d. 29 Aug. 1526. He reigned from 1516, succeeding his father, Vladislao II Jagellone. The ten-year-old King was brought up amid festivities and amusements, rather than in the affairs of State. Under the government of a royal council, Hungary fell into anarchy, while the Turks, whom the Hungarians had already resisted for more than a century, increasingly renewed their attacks upon the country.
