MAASBODE. - A Catholic daily («Il Messaggero della Mosa»), published in Rotterdam from 1 Oct. 1868.
Initially a weekly, it became a daily in 1885, and from 1909 to 1942 it appeared with morning and evening editions. Suppressed by the Germans who occupied Holland in 1942 (already in the German bombing of Rotterdam on 14 May 1939 its offices and machinery had been devastated), it resumed publication in May 1945. In addition to the M., the same company publishes six local Catholic dailies and several weeklies. From its foundation the newspaper has dealt with political, social, moral, cultural and economic issues, especially by disseminating the doctrine proposed in the encyclicals and other documents of the Roman pontiffs.
