MASERU, Diocese of. — With the establishment of the ecclesiastical hierarchy in the Union of South Africa on 11 Jan. 1951, the Apostolic Vicariate of Basutoland (q.v.) became the Diocese of M. The name refers to a small town that lies almost at the borders of the diocesan territory. The seat of the Ordinary is at Roma in Basutoland.
