MEYNELL, Alice. – English writer, b. in London, 1847; d. 27 Nov. 1922.
A woman of strong personality, she was converted to the Catholic Church at an early age and gathered around herself and the magazine *Merry England*, which she edited with her husband Wilfrid, the leading literary figures of her time. Her essays offer delicate insights and fresh perspectives on life and literature; her lyrics are deeply religious, with motifs built upon the music of night and silence.
