MEYNELL, ALICE. – English writer, born in London in 1847 and died on 27 November 1922.
A strong personality who converted at a very young age to the Catholic Church, she knew how to gather around herself and the journal Merry England, which she directed with her husband Wilfrid, the leading writers of her time. Her essays offer delicate insights and new visions of life and literature; her lyric poems are profoundly religious, with motifs constructed upon the music of night and silence.
