Meynell, Alice

MEYNELL, ALICE. - English writer, b. in London in 1847 and d. on 27 Nov. 1922.

A strong personality, converted at a very young age to the Catholic Church, she was able to gather around herself and around the journal Merry England, which she edited with her husband Wilfrid, the greatest literary figures of her time. Her essays offer delicate insights and new visions of life and literature; her lyrics are profoundly religious, with motifs built upon the music of night and silence.
