OSANNA of CATTARO, Blessed. — Born at Releza, near Cettigne, on 25 Nov. 1493 to Orthodox parents; died at Cattaro on 27 Apr. 1565. At the age of 14 she entered the service of a Catholic family in Cattaro, where, instructed in the Catholic faith, she devoted herself to a life of penance as a recluse in the monastery of St Paul.
There she received the religious habit of the Third Order of St Nicholas and took the name of Osanna. She gathered around her numerous virgins, who, following her example, led a religious life as Dominican tertiaries. Her cult was approved by Pius XI on 21 Dec. 1927 (AAS, 20 [1928], pp. 29-42).
